In our commitment to engage in the social and cultural affairs of our world, Community Church supports the work and mission of the Mercy Care Centre school, located in the Mathare Valley slum in Nairobi, Kenya. Mercy Care Centre is an independent Christian school bringing God’s love and care to around 750 children living in poverty who would otherwise struggle to obtain an education.
The school provides a daily meal, spiritual guidance and academic studies which follow the Kenyan Government Schools curriculum. Prayer and worship are a normal part of school life. Staff teach and model a Biblically sound Christian way of life.
Mercy Care Centre is a Kenyan project established, owned and run by Kenyans challenged to care for a very needy part of their own population – those who make their home in the Mathare Valley slum settlement.
It receives little government support, and trusts in God to supply its needs through a small number of supporters at home and abroad, and through its own fund raising efforts.
The Chief Administrative Officer is Mr. Benard Otulo. He is supported by a dedicated group of teachers and support staff, some of whom live in Mathare Valley and most of whom provide their services for very little pay.
